My Top 5 Favorite Latin Authors
Hi Everyone!
Since Community Garden is set to release on January 20th (pre-order your copy here!) I wanted to discuss some of my favorite Latin books and authors that inspired me over the last few years. Of course, this list may be updated in the future if I find other awesome authors!

1) Lily Anderson
Best known for books such as Scout's Honor and Undead Girl Gang, Anderson brings deadly creatures with emotionally intelligent characters into her novels. So far, my favorite has been Undead Girl Gang, but I'm anxious to read her latest book Killer House Party!
Check out her work here.

2) Sandra Cisneros
My friend recommended The House On Mango Street a few years ago, and I fell in love with Cisneros's concise vignette style while also conveying deep emotions and subtextual themes. According to Goodreads, The House On Mango Street is about "a young Latina girl growing up in Chicago, inventing for herself who and what she will become." What I also loved about this style and general plot is it reminded me of my grandmother and stories she told about living in NYC when she first came to America from Puerto Rico. I can't wait to check out more of her books! Check her out here.

3) Elizabeth Acevedo
I cannot begin to describe how much I adore Acevedo's novels! For a long time, I never read any novels that featured Latina main characters along with their household customs. Honestly, I just didn't know they existed!
But when I first read With The Fire On High, I felt a sense of understanding, like this author knew how I grew up! Other acclaimed novels include Clap When You Land and The Poet X. In fact, Acevedo's vignette style and down-to-earth writing approach inspired me to write Community Garden.
Check out her website here.

4) Silvia Moreno-Garcia
If you enjoy horror novels with a Latin Gothic twist, then I definitely recommend this author! After I read Mexican Gothic (which I devoured BTW!) I continued to explore her other works. According to Moreno-Garcia's Goodreads page, she has an impressive list of publications for Gothic/Horror magazines. However, another one of my favorites is The Beautiful Ones, which has a historical/magical realism vibe. Check out more of her amazing work here.

5) Isabel Cañas
I first discovered this author on Goodreads after reading Mexican Gothic. Cañas's work was one of the recommendations under Silvia Moreno-Garcia, so I checked out one of her more recent books, Vampires of El Norte. I cannot begin to describe how much I adored this novel! Historical fiction + will-they-won't-they romance + vampires?! Yes please! I also appreciated Cañas's dedication to historical accuracy while creating really awesome vampires. These are a different kind of blood sucker that are truly horrific!
Check out more of her work here.
